Messing Around In My Craft Room-on the CASE with Shel Anderson... Faux Batik Technique with gold foiling...

I was surfing about the internet last week and came across a gorgeous card by Jennifer Spiller found here

I had never even heard of the batik technique and also had never tried gold foiling....so I thought I would give it a whirl.

I chose Artistically Asian for my stamp set....and in hind sight probably should have chosen something a bit more solid.

I also chose to use the de-bossed side of my embossed card base in hopes that the foil would adhere more easily.

The foiling....well....it is not easy....I like the look....but it is a pain to do!  I used Tombow ....attached the gold flakes with tweezers ( which the foil stuck to) let it dry and then brushed away the excess with a flat paint brush ( which it stuck to)

I had gold flakes everywhere and it is worse than glitter to clean up!

Don't get me wrong.... I love the foil look.....but I would NEVER teach it in a class....it would be a HUGE mess and my girls would be so frustrated!

I suggest you go to Jennifers post....she has a wonderful step by step tutorial....and give it a go....I would love to see what you come up with.

  1. I love your leafing and your faux Batik! Both are just lovely. I am so happy that you gave them both a try. Your comments about the leafing sounds like me the first few times I tried it...it is such a big mess but, defantly well worth it
